Norma E. Boyd 5K
Race for Education
Since its inception in 2012, the Norma E. Boyd 5K Race for Education has become an annual celebration of health, wellness, and education. The event spans two days, featuring a Health and Wellness Expo with fitness sessions, health screenings, and wellness activities, followed by the 5K race. Proceeds from the race support Pearl and Ivy Educational Foundation scholars, promoting both well-being and educational advancement. In 2024, we doubled our fundraising goal, raising over $20,000 to support our scholars.

ABOUT THE NORMA E. BOYD RACE FOR EDUCATION
Over the past 100 years, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® , Xi Omega Chapter, has demonstrated a rich history of community service and commitment to education. The members continue to value the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® – service to all mankind. Xi Omega Chapter, in collaboration with the Pearl and Ivy Educational Foundation, Inc. (PIEF), will host the 11th annual Norma E. Boyd 5K Race for Education on Sunday, September 29, 2024. This event has raised over $98,000 since 2013 and supports PIEF's initiative to provide college scholarships for District of Columbia high school students.
Norma E. Boyd was a native Washingtonian who spent her 97 years of life dedicated to educational and humanitarian pursuits for children. Ms. Boyd was an incorporator and founding member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She also was a charter member of the Xi Omega Chapter.
Established in 1988, PIEF is a 501(c)(3) organization whose primary mission is to provide scholarships to deserving and exemplary college-bound high school seniors and continuing college students in the District of Columbia. PIEF is comprised of college-educated, professional women – community volunteers who are dedicated to serving the needs of District residents.
PIEF serves as the fundraising arm of its sister organization, Xi Omega Chapter, the oldest and largest graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. ® established in Washington, DC. In addition to annually awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships with PIEF, Xi Omega also provides an array of service programs that focus on educational enrichment, health and wellness, family strengthening, environmental ownership, and global impact. PIEF is the primary funder of Xi Omega's service programs through community grants, and often partners with Xi Omega in promoting and executing these programs.
