Who We Are
Established in 1988, the primary mission of the nonprofit Pearl and Ivy Educational Foundation, Inc. (PIEF) is to provide scholarships to deserving and exemplary college-bound high school seniors in the District of Columbia and continuing college students. PIEF is comprised of college-educated, professional women – community volunteers who are dedicated to serving the needs of District residents.
What We Do
PIEF serves as a community partner of Xi Omega Chapter, the first and largest graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, established in Washington, DC. In addition to annually awarding scholarships in collaboration with Xi Omega, PIEF provides an array of service programs that focus on family empowerment, youth leadership, economic wealth, environmental and social justice matters that uplift our local community.
Each year, PIEF hosts signature fundraising events and campaigns in the community such as the Pink Hat Tea and Norma E. Boyd 5K Race for Education, in addition to participating in the international Giving Tuesday online philanthropic movement. To date, PIEF has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships.
These initiatives speak to the heart of PIEF’s mission: making college dreams come true for youth in our nation’s capital.
